Washington does not take seriously the proposal to include a Russian in prison in Germany in the lists of exchanges between the United States and Russia. John Kirby, the coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, said this in an interview with ABC, which aired on Sunday.

According to him, “there was a demand” that the Russian side wants to “return a man named Krasikov, who is in prison in Germany.”

Kirby noted: “I have said publicly that this could not be considered a serious proposal.”

He explained that Washington cannot be involved in the negotiation process on this issue, since the said Russian is not in an American prison.

In Germany, in December, a Russian was sentenced to life imprisonment in the case of the murder of a Georgian citizen of Chechen origin, Zelimkhan Khangoshvili.

The case has been considered by the Berlin High Court since the fall of 2020 under increased security measures.

The murder took place on August 23, 2019 in the Little Tiergarten Park in Alt-Moabit district. According to the prosecution, Russian citizen Vadim K. drove up to the 40-year-old Khangoshvili on a bicycle and fired two shots.

The convict called himself Vadim Sokolov and stated that he did not know the name of the case – Vadim Krasikov. The Russian side has repeatedly denied its involvement in the incident.
