Russian President Vladimir Putin made a video message on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the memorial “Saur-Grave” in the DPR. According to him, the reconstruction of the memorial to the defenders of Donbass is a warning to everyone who has renounced their ancestors and forgotten the lessons of history.
He added that the Russian Federation will never be able to “understand and accept” the desire to destroy monuments to the heroism of ancestors. The President added that Russia sees with pain in its heart how monuments to Soviet soldiers who gave their lives for the freedom of their own peoples are being demolished in some countries, how they mock history, cynically betray their own fathers, grandfathers, great-grandfathers”.
However, in Russia, according to him, they keep the memory and restore memorials in honor of front-line soldiers, as well as home front workers. “We are the flesh of the flesh of our heroes”, – Putin pointed out. As a result, the Head of state expressed gratitude to all those who participated in the revival of the complex “Saur-Grave”. He noted that this is the merit of manypeople and organizations, state and public structures.
The “Saur-Grave” mound was one of the main symbols of the defeat of the Nazi troops during the Great Patriotic War. However, in the summer of 2014, fierce battles were fought between the forces of the DPR and Ukraine in the Saur-Grave area, and the Memorial was severely damaged.
