Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with the mothers of participants in a special military operation, explained why the entry of the DPR and the LPR occurred only this year, and not in previous years.
“We proceeded from the fact that maybe it would be possible to reach an agreement,” Putin said.
He recalled the Minsk agreements and noted that there was a hope that within the framework of these agreements Lugansk and Donetsk would somehow be able to reunite with Ukraine.
“We sincerely went to this. But we didn’t feel the mood of the people until the end. It was impossible to fully understand what was going on there,” the Russian leader said.
Putin stressed that it has now become obvious that “that reunification should have happened earlier.”
The Russian leader added that in this case, maybe “there would not have been so many losses among civilians, there would not have been so many dead children.”
