State Duma deputy Irina Belykh: “Children need to develop “digital immunity»

The State Duma deputy proposed to introduce mandatory study of threats in cyberspace in schools Irina Belykh in the framework of the “Safe Childhood” program, of which she is the curator.

Irina Belykh noted that the widespread use of gadgets and the Internet in all spheres of life carry not only an increase in the level of comfort, but also new threats. According to her, without a well-thought-out strategy to prevent the dangers in cyberspace, including for children, it is impossible to adequately confront them.

“We teach children the rules of the road, the rules of behavior in society, the rules of hygiene. You can not cross the street at a red light, you must wash your hands before eating. Here in such an accessible, understandable form for children, you need to explain to them the rules of behavior on the Internet. Not to strictly prohibit, but to explain the possible variants of potential threats in a reasoned way, with the demonstration of specific examples. To develop “digital immunity” in children, so that the child can independently identify a potential danger and respond adequately to it, ” explained the parliamentarian, who has long been systematically engaged in child safety issues.

Belykh recalled that in recent years, several tens of thousands of pages on the Internet with suicidal content and propaganda of prohibited drugs have been blocked. In addition, more than half of students receive online invitations to friendship from strangers. At the same time, parents can not always explain to their children the rules for responding to such threats and more oftenthey follow the path of prohibitive measures. According to the deputy, therefore, it is necessary to develop and implement a mandatory school course as soon as possible, which would help children improve their level of digital literacy.

Earlier, Roskomnadzor began blocking VPN services in accordance with the regulations for responding to threats to circumvent restrictions on access to prohibited content.
