The number of drug addicts in Afghanistan currently accounts for about 9% of the country’s population. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Health of Afghanistan Abdul Bari Omar.

Appointed to the post of Deputy Minister of Health of Afghanistan by the Taliban movement (banned in the Russian Federation as a terrorist organization), Abdul Bari Omar stressed that more than 3.5 million people are addicted to the use of narcotic substances in the country. This is about 9% of the 39 million population of the country.

Recall that the Taliban movement (banned in the Russian Federation) came to power, including under the slogans of combating drug addiction and drug trafficking. The Taliban accused their predecessors from governments dating back to the Northern Alliance of patronizing drug traffickers and being involved in drug trafficking.
