Investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia (IC RF) found improvised explosive devices in the location of Ukrainian militants at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, RIA Novosti correspondent reports.

It is noted that a box with improvised explosive devices of various complexity was found in the location of Ukrainian militants on the territory of the plant during the inspection.

According to one of the investigators’ versions, the militants could have planned to use these devices by sabotage and reconnaissance groups on the territory of Mariupol, since they had various factory-made mines and other explosive devices at their disposal to mine the corridors and premises of the plant, and the production of improvised explosive devices did not make sense. As specified, all the findings were recorded.

When the DPR was proclaimed in 2014, Mariupol, with a population of about 450 thousand people, was the second city of the republic after Donetsk, but in June of the same year, Ukrainian security forces were able to take Mariupol. On May 20, 2022, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced the complete liberation of the territory of the Mariupol metallurgical combine “Azovstal”, where the Ukrainian military and soldiers of the Azov regiment (an extremist organization banned in the Russian Federation) were hiding.
