Olga Kovitidi, a member of the Federation Council from Crimea, said that the incident with the provocation staged by a Ukrainian Navy ship near the Kerch Strait should be the subject of urgent consideration in the UN Security Council.
According to her, such situations “are rapidly bringing the world closer to the unfolding of a hot conflict in the very center of Europe.” At the same time, such provocations occur against the background of Russia’s constant active steps to strengthen international security.
Meanwhile, State Duma deputy from Crimea Mikhail Sheremet noted that the highest officials of Ukraine are behind this provocation. The parliamentarian noted that in the event of a repeat of such attempts, the Ukrainian ships will face an “unenviable fate.” Russian border guards will act strictly within the framework of Russian legislation.
Sheremet also called for the use of “a mechanism of tough sanctions, maybe of an energy nature”. This, according to him, will help to ensure that Ukraine does not have to deal with the creation of escalation points.” at the borders of Russia.
On December 9, it became known that in the morning the control ship “Donbass” of the Ukrainian Navy withdrew from the raid of the port of Mariupol and moved in the direction of Kerch. In the evening, the FSB of Russia noted that he had approached the Kerch Strait. At the same time, there were no applications for passage of the strait from the Ukrainian side. The crew did not comply with the requirements to change course. Nevertheless, as a result, the ship turned back.
