The last chairman of the State Security Committee (KGB) of the USSR, Vadim Bakatin, died in Moscow at the age of 85. This is reported by the Telegram channel of the NTV television company.

It is noted that the party leader will be buried at the Troyekurovsky cemetery of the capital.

In 1983 Bakatin was appointed to the post of inspector in the Central Committee of the CPSU, in 1988 Mikhail Gorbachev invited him to take the post of Minister of Internal Affairs. In 1991, he was one of the candidates for the presidential election of the RSFSR.

Under Bakatin, the KGB was divided into several independent departments, although he himself opposed this.
