Moscow has received sixty refusals from Western countries to extradite criminals since March, about half of them are due to political motives, said Vladimir Tarabrin, head of the Department of New Challenges and Threats of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

According to him, several countries have officially stopped cooperation with the Russian side in the extradition of criminals to the Russian Federation and in the execution of requests for legal assistance in criminal cases. In particular, if in the first two months of this year Russia received 4 refusals from Western countries regarding objective reasons, then in March-June 2022 60 refusals were received, of which at least 28 were accepted for political reasons.

The diplomat stressed that such actions damage the joint efforts of the international community in countering crime, lead to a sharp deterioration of the criminal situation in general. According to Tarabrin, only crime will benefit from such actions.

Earlier, Tarabrin, in an interview with RIA Novosti, noted that the European Union and the United States, under far-fetched pretexts, decided to freeze cooperation with Russia in the fight against terrorism.
