Without the “help” of the West, the conflict in Ukraine would have been resolved long ago, said Alexey Zaitsev, Deputy director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry. According to him, some countries are specifically trying to quarrel between Russia and Ukraine.
“We are convinced that without Western so-called assistance, the conflict in eastern Ukraine would have been settled long ago. And the conflict itself, which began with the coming to power of the nationalists, most likely would not have happened,” he told reporters at a briefing.
Now there is a “comparative lull” on the contact line in Donbass, he added. The number of ceasefire violations has decreased compared to the beginning of January.
Zaitsev added that Moscow considers even the idea of a possible war with Ukraine unacceptable. But “the overseas curators of Ukraine think differently,” he said, and escalate the situation when something goes wrong.
