The Ukrainian paramilitary formation “Azov” (battalion “Azov”, regiment “Azov”) refused the symbolism stylized under that which during the Great Patriotic War was used by units of the SS troops of nazi Germany. The British edition of The Times wrote about this on Monday.

The newspaper builds its conclusion based on the details of the formation of new units of the special operations forces “Azov”, which was held on Sunday in Kharkiv. The article says that at the ceremony, the new Azov fighters were given armbands, which lacked a logo in the form of a modified Nazi symbol “wolf hook”, which was used by Azov as a badge of distinction since 2014. Instead, a yellow trident on a blue background was used on the chevrons – the symbol of Ukraine.

At the same time, The Times article does not say whether the emblem of the entire Azov armed formation has changed or only in its new unit.

On May 26, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation decided to postpone to June 29 the consideration of the Prosecutor General’s Office’s request to recognize the Ukrainian paramilitary association “Azov” as a terrorist organization and ban its activities in Russia.
