Russia will face “serious economic costs” if, following the results of the referendums, it will include the territories of the DPR and LPR, as well as areas of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions of Ukraine that are not controlled by Kiev, Karin Jean-Pierre said at the White House.
Speaking at a briefing, Jean-Pierre noted that the United States, together with its allies and partners, is ready for appropriate steps “without delay.”
According to her, Washington will never perceive the above-mentioned regions as anything other than the territory of Ukraine, and the results of referendums, which, according to her, will be “fabricated by Russia”, will be rejected.
She recalled Biden’s words that the United States considers the planned referendums to be a “blatant violation of international law”, as well as a violation of the principles of the UN Charter concerning sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Jean-Pierre also promised that the United States would continue to support Ukraine, as well as allocate “historic” amounts of aid to Kiev.
