According to the US Permanent Representative to NATO, Julianne Smith, the alliance is working on a new strategic concept in which Russia is planned to be declared the main threat to the Western bloc.
She clarified that the document is not ready yet. “However, I think we basically agree that Russia is our main challenge today, it is a threat of paramount importance,” the permanent representative stressed, her words are quoted by TASS.
According to her, Russia will remain “the number one priority” for NATO in the near future. The new strategic concept is planned to be approved at the NATO summit, which will be held in Madrid at the end of June.
Recall that in the last version of the strategic concept from 2010, Russia was considered as a partner of the North Atlantic Alliance.
