President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with the Chinese newspaper South China Morning Post that he would like to hold talks on the conflict in Ukraine with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

According to him, Kiev has officially requested negotiations since February 24, but the conversation never took place.

“I would like to talk directly with Xi Jinping. Since February 24, when the large-scale aggression began, we have requested negotiations, but no dialogue has taken place, although I think it would be very useful. China has a very powerful economy and can influence Russia economically and politically,” Zelensky said.

He clarified that Russia felt completely isolated economically without the Chinese market. At the same time, the President of Ukraine expressed understanding of the relative desire of the PRC to maintain a “balanced” attitude to the conflict that has developed in Ukraine.

Zelensky added that he would very much like Xi Jinping to reconsider his attitude to the Russian Federation.
