Ex-German Chancellor Angela Merkel and ex-Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi cannot be mediators in negotiations with the Russian Federation, they do not have the proper authority. This was stated by the adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Mikhail Podolyak.
Earlier, Berlusconi said that he and Merkel could mediate.
Podolyak called this proposal “strange”. He believes that this initiative is “an attempt to use the theme of Ukraine to restore his name in their countries.”
“Any intermediary should have trust, authority and significance. Neither Berlusconi nor Merkel have such a thing for sure,” he said on his Twitter page.
