Alexey Pushkov, chairman of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy, questioned the readiness of Western countries to declare a political war on Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan over rapprochement with Russia.

“Turkey is such a valuable member of NATO for the Western alliance, holding the keys to the Near and Middle East, which raises great doubts about the readiness of Western countries to declare a political war on Erdogan,” Pushkov wrote in his Telegram channel.

On Friday, following talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Erdogan in Sochi, an agreement was reached to increase the volume of bilateral trade, develop cooperation in the fields of economy, energy, transport, agriculture and tourism, industry, finance and construction.

In addition, according to Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, following the talks between Putin and Erdogan, an agreement was reached on partial payment in rubles for Russian gas supplies. Russia supplies Turkey with 26 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called the wiretapping and surveillance of the leader of the PASOK-KINAL political party Nikos Androulakis an “unforgivable mistake.” The prime minister apologized to the politician in the Sunday edition of the newspaper “To Vima”, saying that he knew nothing about the surveillance.

A political scandal is developing in Greece related to the wiretapping of the mobile phones of an opposition politician, MEP Androulakis and journalist Kukakis. In connection with the scandal, the head of the Greek intelligence service Kontoleon and the Secretary General of the Prime Minister Dimitriadis were dismissed.

“This is a big and unforgivable mistake, I was not informed,” Mitsotakis said. “I would never allow that.”

The newspaper writes that, according to the statements of the prime minister’s office, the head of the special service Kontoleon did not notify anyone about the surveillance of Andrulakis.

The audition lasted three months and was interrupted when the politician was elected president of the PASOK party, informed sources revealed the details. At the same time, Vima reported that the surveillance was conducted at the request of the special services of Armenia and Ukraine, which “in itself raises new reasonable questions.”

In the US, they were horrified by Pelosi’s words about the need to “dig a hole” to China

Photo: Global Look Press

The Speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress Nancy Pelosi, with a story from her childhood, answered the question of how her visit to Taiwan could affect relations between the US and China.

“When I was a little girl, they told me on the beach that if you dig a hole very deep, you can get to China,” Pelosi shared. “So we in Washington have always felt a connection with Beijing.”

Users in social networks criticized such a speech by the speaker, dedicated to the results of the Pacific tour that excited the whole world.

Commentators accused Pelosi of hypocrisy, noting that it is unlikely to improve relations with China by making trips to Taiwan.

“All you have succeeded in is escalating tensions. The world needs leaders fighting for peace,” one user wrote.

“Troublemaker No. 1,” another “fan” designated the speaker’s place in his rating.

“Taiwan residents download the app to find shelters in case of an air raid. They were obviously happier before you made this visit,” another commenter noted.

“You did it just for the sake of PR, to increase your prestige,” another reader addressed Pelosi.

Commentators stated that the politician will bring more benefits to people around the world if he resigns immediately.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called the populist demand of the Ambassador of Ukraine to return the property of the USSR

The words of the Ambassador of Ukraine to the UK Vadim Prystaiko, who demanded that Moscow return part of the foreign assets of the USSR, have no basis. The statements are populist in nature, the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry told RBC.

The Russian Foreign Ministry noted: from the point of view of international law, the USSR as its subject continued to exist. “The state under the name of the USSR did not cease, but continued its international legal personality under the name of the Russian Federation,” the department said and explained that in international law, the concept of “continuance” is used to designate such phenomena.

Earlier, the Ukrainian ambassador to the UK, Vadim Prystaiko, said that Russia should return to Ukraine “at least” a third of the USSR’s foreign property. In particular, the diplomat was referring to premises that are located in Britain and were illegally, in his opinion, “registered to the Russian Federation.”

Academician Arbatov said that the United States can repeat Hiroshima

Photo: en.wikipedia.org

The head of the Center for International Security of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Alexei Arbatov, said that the United States, without admitting guilt for the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, could repeat the strike with atomic weapons.

“For more than five months we have been on the verge of a direct armed clash between Russia and NATO…” the academician said.

According to him, Washington does not consider the bombing of Japan an act of aggression, but only an act of retaliation, as it blames Tokyo for the escalation – the attack on Pearl Harbor. The academician believes that “if there is a further escalation of the Ukrainian crisis,” the use of nuclear weapons will become possible.

“This is the last measure, but it is not excluded,” he believes.
